Interview with Artist Stina Persson

ACL: How did you become interested in art?

SP: I have always loved making things, from muffins to art work to ceramics. Then it comes naturally to look at other people's creations.
My parents were always quite intrigued as they never really had any interest in art themselves. They were sociology professors.

ACL:  What is your favorite subject to illustrate?

SP:  Faces, women, and letters. And lately more and more organic shapes and patterns.

ACL: Which mediums do you use? Are there any other mediums you'd like to work with in the future?

SP: Dr Marten's color dyes, India ink, colored papers, colored plastic films I use for now. But I would love find new mediums, I am constantly hoping to find new  crushes is the art store.

ACL:  How did you develop your personal style?

SP: It more or less just happened. And working commercially people ask for more of what you already have in your portfolio, which makes you a specialist in your style. Therefor it is important to do personal/non commercial work too, to not get stuck in a rut.

ACL:  What inspires you?

SP:  People, old movies, old magazines, thrift stores, flea markets, old fabric, nature and music.

ACL:  Who are your favorite artists?

SP:  Egon Schiele, Alberto Giacometti, Jenny Seville, the Vienna secessionists, Jockum Nordström, Marlene Dumas.
And fellow illustrator friends Sara Singh, Cecilia Carlstedt(my studio mate) and Tina Berning.
