Profile: Photographer Manolo Campion

I recently discovered the work of New York based photographer Manolo Campion and fell in love with his style. He moves easily between gritty and playful and his work captures fashion beautifully.

I emailed Manolo and asked him some questions about his inspiration and background. See his responses below.

When did you start photography? I originally wanted to do film but once I was in the business I found it wasn't for me.... I was exploring different possibilities and my mom suggested I take a photo class - it all started from there.

What is your inspiration? My wife Michelle, my son Bo, music, exploring new parts of the city and seeing new landscapes. Mario Sorrenti, Craig McDean, Avedon. My parents.

What is your favorite thing to photograph? More and more I'm enjoying the challenge of capturing interesting expressions and movements.

What is your favorite location to photograph at? Hmm.... it always changes, I love variety however some old favorites are, the desert, and old houses near water.

Unfortunately, the information on the clothing is in Hungarian, so I can't tell which credit goes with the dress. I think the dress might actually be separates of some sort, but from what I can discern, the primary designer is Anna Molinari.

Draping

No clue who this is, who designed the dress, or where this photo was taken, but I love this gown. The construction on it is really interesting because it is so freeform and yet hangs so nicely.

I'm thinking of adding a diagonal seam (like the one on this dress) at the thigh/hip area to the pattern for my classic halter gown. Seems to give the skirt a great shape...

Balmain

Lily Donaldson in this amazing Balmain dress. Photo composition and styling are fabulous too - love that they paired the gown with bunny ears, gloves, and boots.

Dreamy

Men's Spring 2010, Part 5

[Below] Prada expertly blends various shades of grey to create a rich, layered look. This was probably my favorite collection of the season simply because the fabrics were so gorgeous. Check it out here. 

[Below] This quirky ensemble by Junya Watanabe works by not deviating too far from classic cuts for men. The rust colored, plaid jacket is great.

[2 Below] Basic, but not boring, suits by Armani.

On the right man, pale grey is extremely flattering. I saw a lot of this color this season.
