Lagerfeld

I just finished watching Lagerfeld Confidential, the documentary about Karl Lagerfeld.

Anyone who admires his creative talent should see it. Actually, anyone who would enjoy a peek into the personal life of an icon should see it.

His eccentricity is evident throughout the whole film, but his philosophies about life and fashion are very sensible. I particularly liked the piles of books he has laying EVERYWHERE in his home and office. He even has a personal library with bookstacks!

Royalty and Statesmen

I don't think Princess Letizia of Spain and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy could possibly make government look more glamorous.

The photo on the left is incredible - they are synced in step.

Fashion History Lessons

I've decided to expand the areas my blog covers and add a periodical column about the history of fashion. I am doing this as a way of providing education about various designers and how they have shaped fashion today. As much as I hope the readers enjoy and learn from these columns, I am also doing it as a way of educating myself further in the area of fashion.

In light of the internship with Givenchy that I will be doing in New York City this summer, I've decided to make the progression of the house of Givenchy my first topic.

Stay tuned for the post! As always, pictures will be included, so I promise it won't feel like reading a text book. :-)

Spring 2010 Bridal Collections, Part 3

Sadly, this is my last post about the Spring 2010 bridal collections. However, on a more cheerful note, I have saved some of the best for last.

Below: Oscar de la Renta's wedding gowns.

This empire waist dress layers beautiful lacy fabric over a beige underskirt.

Some of the dresses are more structural, such as the two below. They are definitely the haute couture versions of wedding dresses.

The dark colored waistbands are great too.

Bows!

I recently saw someone wearing a necklace with a bow on it and I thought it was adorable! Naturally, I had to find some bow necklaces that I like. Here are my favorites:

This long pearl necklace with a thin satin bow is from J.Crew.

The simple bow charm necklace below by Alex and Chloe can be purchased at Revolve Clothing.

This chain and faux pearl necklace with a satin bow can be found at Newport News.

Spring 2010 Bridal Collections, Part 3

Below: Gowns from Vera Wang, the queen of wedding gowns.

This sheer, gauzy gown looks so effortless.

The gown below is probably my favorite from all of the spring collections. It's elegant in it's simplicity and looks chic without trying.

I like the idea of black bridesmaid gowns. Not only do they provide a nice background for the bride in white, but the color is universally flattering and can be worn again.

Below: Romona Keveza's gorgeous lace gowns. I like several of them are accented at the waist with a black bow - it gives them a certain drama. Also, I think the short dresses are a great alternative for someone who wants a less serious, more casual wedding.

Drew

Drew Barrymore looks amazing in her black and white striped dress. Paired with red heels, it makes for a striking combination.

Spring 2010 Bridal Collections, Part 2

Below: A delicate lace gown from Temperley London. The diaphanous cap sleeve is a wonderful detail.

3 Below: Monique Lhuillier's always feminine wedding dresses.

I love the one below this caption because it is unusual in the sense that it appears to be made out of some sort of jersey material and is beautifully simple.

Spring 2010 Bridal Collections

Spring 2010 bridal collections are here! I ended up choosing a lot of gowns as my favorites, so there will be more posts to come!

2 below: Airy gowns from Christos. The fabric appears to be some type of a Swiss-dot chiffon or tulle. The silhouette below is one of my favorites and I love the bow at the waist.

Below: Lela Rose's simple and elegant gown. I particularly like the type of lace used here.

Below: A fairy-tale-esque dress with tulle skirt from Amsale.

The Little White Dress

It has officially been spring now for a while and in honor of that I picked out some of my favorite white dresses. The little white dress is one of my favorite wardrobe pieces as it looks fresh and feminine.

Below: A cute little sailor-esque dress from the Gap.

Below: Moschino Cheap & Chic's pleated cut out dress. I think this one is my favorite of the bunch :-). Available at Net-a-porter.com

London Sole

Being a tall girl, I am always looking for great flats. London Sole has the largest selection of ballet flats I've ever seen. I love them because they actually look like ballet shoes.

Dainty and modern with a low-cut vamp, these are definitely not your mother's ballet flat.

They have classic styles in a wide variety of colors.

Below: Henrietta
Many of their shoes feature different prints, like animal or zebra.

Below: another version of the Henrietta shoe

They also have simple ballet flats in unconventional colors, like this hot pink Harriet shoe.

In addition to the regular ballet flat style, they carry variations on the ballet flat.

Below: Valentine style
These shoes are all available at their online retail boutique, www.londonsole.com.

Lucky for us, London Sole also has a boutique close by in Santa Monica!

Fall 2009, Part 9

Finally, my last post about the Fall 2009 runways!

2 Below: Cocktail dresses from Requiem.

This is one of the most interesting dresses I've seen. The structured, tailored bodice and the free form ruffles on the skirt create a perfect balance.

This two-tier trapeze dress is beautifully simple. The fabric looks like it has some weight to it, which I like.

2 Below: Adorable and wacky layered skirts with a great color palette from Louis Vuitton.

5 Below: The Fall 2009 Nina Ricci line was incredible. Olivier Theyskens is a true master of fashion, as he has shown through his work for Nina Ricci, Rochas, and his own eponymous label.

The structure of these gowns defies gravity. The process behind creating them must be painstaking.

The sheer fabric of the skirt on the dress below combined with the horizontal stripes resembles a crinoline slip.

Look what I found...

I was walking on Melrose the other day on my way to a great French restaurant called Comme Ça (you should try it), and I spotted this dress in the window of a boutique. Unfortunately, I neglected to write down the name of the boutique, so I'm not sure where it's from.

I used to think that dark blue and black clash horribly, but lately I've been seeing evening wear that has made me think otherwise. I think the color combination is wonderfully dramatic.

JLH

I just found these pictures of Jennifer Love Hewitt on my computer. They're from a short while ago, but I'm not sure what the date or event was.

The way the collar gently wraps around the neck is so beautiful.

I love lace detailing on dresses, and this is no exception.
